NYC Green Tonic: Juice Recipe

For all you urban dwellers, you know how icky city air can get: car exhaust, black soot, cigarette smoke. Sometimes I feel like I'm in a toxic waste dump and that my lungs are turning black just from breathing it all in. I combat that with green juice (and holding my breath when appropriate, like on short subway rides).

Check out this juice recipe with carcinogen-neutralizing parsley to help you combat city air.

The Green Smile
Organic Cucumber (one, with skin on)
Organic Celery (4-5 large stalks)
Organic Parsley (1 small bunch)
Organic Apple (one)
Organic Lemon (one small, without peel)
Juice, enjoy, and feel your lungs pinkening again!

Added benefits:

Cucumber: Promotes beautiful skin and long luscious hair with its vitamins and minerals including silicon and sulfur.

Celery: High in calcium 1 cup of juiced celery provides 20% of your daily recommendation for calcium (take that dairy products). Also high in collagen-promoting vitamin C, and Vitamin A which is great for your vision, skin and teeth.

Parsley: Has been shown to inhibit tumors, neutralize carcinogens, and is high in nutrients including folic acid, Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Vitamin K.
Apple: As they say, an apple a day, keeps the doctor away. The antioxidant quercetin, helps boost your endurance by increasing oxygen to the lungs, so it's great pre-run. It is also good for detoxifying and digestive health. The sweetness may help reduce your cravings for processed sweets.

Lemon: Although they seem acidic, lemons have an alkalizing effect on the body. They deliver an immune boost with Vitamin C, and a mild diuretic effect, helping you shed water weight.
