Detox Salad

Toxins are all around us: pollution in the air we breathe, contaminants in our water, second hand smoke, chemical residue on our food.. the list goes on an on.

While our bodies naturally have a detoxification and elimination system, modern life thoroughly overloads it with an onslaught of toxins that are part of everyday living in this day and age.

So, it's important to help support your body's own detox system with a gentle cleanse once in a while...and this doesn't have to mean a fast! There are many foods that are excellent detoxifiers in their whole form, like the ingredients that make up this detox salad.

Detox Salad
10 minutes to make // Yields: 2 servings
.

Ingredients:

1 head of broccoli, stems removed
¼ to ½ head cauliflower, stems removed
1 carrot

1 red beet (optional)
7 sprigs of fresh parsley, chopped finely
1 tbs. sunflower seeds
Pinch of turmeric
Pinch of cumin
Pinch of sea salt and pepper, to taste
2-3 tbs. fresh lemon juice

Directions:

  1. In a Vitamix, food processor, or high speed blender, process the broccoli until fine. Remove to a bowl, and repeat with the cauliflower, and then carrots and then beet. (You can also mince finely by hand...this salad is all about the texture!)
  2. Add the parsley and sunflower seeds to the vegetable mix. Season with rest of ingredients, to taste.
  3. Enjoy!

Broccoli and Cauliflower are both strong detoxifiers that help eliminate toxins from the body while delivering anti-inflammatory benefits and a vitamin boost.
Turmeric is another strong detoxifier and anti-inflammatory that cleanses the liver.
