This past weekend, I was lucky
enough to have a front row seat at Integrative Nutrition's IIN Live Conference in
New York City.
Only open to students and grads,
we got to hear from nutrition experts including Dr. Neal Barnard (Founder of
Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine), Marion Nestle PhD (Professor of
Nutrition studies at NYU and author of Food Politics), and Daphne Oz
(co-host of ABC's The Chew).
The
energy and passion of my peers reminded me why I'm so happy I've become a
Health Coach. There are so many people out there who are starving for nutrition
knowledge and someone to support them in changing their lifestyle to become
healthier. It's truly the most rewarding career I could ask for.
Here are the few snippets that I thought I'd share with you:
Dr. Neal Barnard |
"Eat a plant-based diet"
Abundant evidence suggests that the
most healthful diets include lots of vegetables and fruits, while avoiding
animal products. Eliminating meat and dairy products from your diet is a
powerful step in disease prevention. I wish more doctors did their research,
like Dr. Barnard!
Marion Nestle, PhD |
"Don't believe everything you read on a food package...or that the government recommends." - Marion Nestle
There is fierce competition for our food dollars, and food companies are willing to do just about anything to get them, including lobbying government, funding studies, and marketing to children or minority groups. Looking forward to reading her expose on the industry, Food Politics.
Daphne Oz |
"Make health a priority not
an obsession"
Being healthy is
NOT about
deprivation, its about creating a lifestyle where you are eating enough
healthy and
nourishing foods, that it's OK to eat something a little, less,
"healthy" when you feel like it. If you want a piece of birthday cake,
eat
it. (Just not the whole cake :)
If you want to get invited to awesome conferences like this one, and learn everything you ever wanted to know about nutrition, health, and wellness, consider becoming a Health Coach...Don't hesitate to reach out to me with your questions!
